Getting to know Angel Sanchez Carreras better…
When did you start triathlon?
I started when I was five years old. I swam and ran during the pre-season. I realised that I had a knack for running fast. With the support of my family and the Tritoledo triathlon club, I was able to start this fantastic sport that absorbs you from the first minute. From then on, it was all about perseverance and a lot of effort.
What does triathlon bring to your life?
Today, it allows me to be myself. Without triathlon and without sport, I feel very empty. There have been times of bad times and triathlon manages to evade all negative thoughts, cognitions and perceptions. It has taught me to grow as a person, to start having responsibility and tasks every day. To know how to say no and yes when it suits me. It has strengthened me mentally to extreme levels and made me realize what human beings endure.
Your 3 Amix supplements…
Depending on the time of the season, I cannot do without some things or others. In summer, mainly: RockXL gel and Quick gel for very hard training or for competitions; ISOLYTE is the most essential. We have many hours of training, in addition to doing many sessions during the day (up to four). So we need proper hydration and lots of salts and HC, which are really necessary to have continuity; and Casein for the evenings, double chocolate flavour with coconut. On the other hand, in winter, what cannot be missing is Creatine monohydrate creapure , Carnosyn and casein.
Ángel Sánchez Carreras: “I proved to myself that you should never give up, no matter what happens”
What are your plans for 2021?
I want to continue to progress in sports and academics. I'm starting World Cups this year and I hope that the work I've done will come to light.
Do you have any habits before starting a competition?
I'm not very particular. I try to adapt to the circumstances of each country or region where we race. It's not a mania, but something I tend to do a lot in competitions is forget something, usually an object.
Which competition do you remember most fondly?
I remember fondly my first Olympic Championship in Spain in the elite category. After being injured months before the competition, I was able to finish second in the sprint. I proved to myself that you should never give up, no matter what happens.
We wish Angel all the success he deserves and we have no doubt that he will achieve it. Work, passion, effort and a mind focused on results are very powerful weapons and he has them at his disposal. Go for it, champion!
